Teacher's Influence: Rediscovering Passion

Image
Growing up in the culturally diverse Province of Quebec during the 80s and 90s provided a unique and challenging upbringing for me. Being born to a French Canadian father and an English-speaking mother meant I was exposed to both languages and their respective cultures, creating a fascinating but sometimes conflicting experience. In an era when dual-income families were becoming more common, my parents adhered to traditional roles. My father was the sole breadwinner, working tirelessly to support our family, while my mother took care of the household. Looking back now, I deeply appreciate the sacrifices my father made for us, even though it meant I didn't get to see him as much as I would have liked. Despite his demanding schedule, he always made time for me, demonstrating his unwavering love and dedication. When I entered Highschool, my dad pulled me out of the French school system and I went to an English school but I was in a bilingual program with advanced French classes. This

Healing Journey: Depression to Joy

Image
Around this time last year, I found myself at the lowest point in my life. My heart was broken, and depression consumed me, causing me to spiral out of control. Every day felt like a battle just to keep my head above water as I struggled to crawl out of the pit of despair. I spent months confined to my bed, lacking the energy or desire to do even the simplest tasks like showering or cleaning my house. But as time passed, I began to slowly pick myself up from the darkness. Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon (1992) Like a phoenix rising from its ashes, my journey of healing commenced with a life-changing event: receiving an acceptance letter from Concordia University. I was ecstatic to be admitted into my first-choice program, English Literature, even though I missed the deadline for the Fall Semester, and my studies would begin in the Winter. This opportunity motivated me to reignite my passions for reading and blogging, which brought genuine happiness into my life once again. When school star

Summer Time Reading Challenge or Method To My Madness?

Image
As I eagerly await the start of classes in September, I am utilizing this summer to indulge in my passion for reading. Recently, I completed Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon," a weighty novel that took me on an extraordinary journey. However, I have decided to embark on an even greater challenge: reading J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Silmarillion." If you are familiar with Tolkien's works, you'll understand the demanding nature of this particular book. Personally, I find it to be excessively descriptive and occasionally tedious to read. This sentiment resonated with me when I delved into Beowulf for my Medieval Literature class last semester. However, by the end of that epic poem, I found myself thoroughly captivated by the story, and I hope to experience a similar transformation with "The Silmarillion." Additionally, I anticipate that this novel will provide greater depth and insight into Tolkien's other renowned works, such as &qu

Mother's Day Reflections

Image
Mother's Day is fast approaching, and for me, this day is bittersweet. While I am now a mother myself, the journey to this point was not an easy one. I suffered a miscarriage before having my child, and the memory of that loss still lingers. Mother's Day can be a difficult reminder of what could have been, but it's also a celebration of what I have. Before I had my child, Mother's Day was especially tough. I wasn't close with my own mother. I also remember one Mother's Day when I was a few months pregnant with my baby bat. It was a conflicting day for me, as I felt filled with both hope and heartbreak.  However, despite the difficulties, I have been blessed with an important maternal figure in my life: my sister Nancey. She has always gone above and beyond what an ordinary big sister should do. When I was struggling with my homework, she sat with me and helped me. Whenever I eagerly brought home the Scholastic Book flyer, I knew Nancey was the lady to suck up t

Sailor Moon International Fan Club, Is It Worth It?

Image
I am a huge Sailor Moon fan and I pay a yearly membership fee (roughly $100 Canadian) to be honest, I don't think it is worthwhile unless you are a die-hard Sailor Moon fan like me. The membership does have perks, though. You get access to fan club-exclusive licensed items that you can purchase directly from their website .  Sailor Moon & Tuxedo Mask Plush is an exclusive item for Sailor Moon Fan Club Members Only In addition, International Fan Club members get a little gift every year. This year, I was quite happy with my perks! Like always, I got my membership card. Every year, you get a new card and the picture is different. I got an adorable notebook, a sticker, a collector's pin, and my favourite piece: a moon stick bracelet! Each member gets the same yearly perks. I really love the artwork on the notebook and sticker as it is the same artwork that can be seen in the mangas. My membership card and I blotted out my ID number, hehe! The sticker! I love this artwork, so

Sailor Moon Room update

Image
This is an update on my previous post about how I made some changes to my office, AKA Sailor Moon room! My little work area, minus the keyboard. The lights in the background are of Artemis and Luna as well as Chibi Usa. My Sailor Moon Akko keyboard! Well, I got the lights for my Ikea Detolf cabinets and I installed them! I am quite happy with the way everything turned out in my office. The only thing I need is to get a curtain so I can hide my closet! I have so much more room for more figures! I am quite happy with my little study area. The only item that is not displayed is my Sailor Moon Akko keyboard. For some reason, I had issues with some of my keys. For example, the "S" key wasn't working. After trying several things, like removing the key, plugging and re-plugging, I had to reset the keyboard. It works! I originally thought it was due to my operating system but nope! I am so happy! I have a chrome book that you can fold in half and I use it as a tablet. or as a mo

The Little Things

Image
“You know," he said with unusual somberness, "I asked my father once why kenders were little, why we weren't big like humans and elves. I really wanted to be big," he said softly and for a moment he was quiet. "What did your father say?" asked Fizban gently. "He said kenders were small because we were meant to do small things. 'If you look at all the big things in the world closely,' he said, 'you'll see that they're really made up of small things all joined together.' That big dragon down there comes to nothing but tiny drops of blood, maybe. It's the small things that make the difference.” - Margaret Weis, author, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragonlance Chronicles Beautiful snow filled branch! As I sit in my living room, with my laptop perched on a pillow, I am typing this while I am savouring my morning coffee. There's nothing quite like that first cup of coffee in the morning! My curtains on my window are slightly pa

Grail Figure: Sakura Miku by Spiritale

Image
This is the week where I am receiving all my Sakura Miku pre-orders! If you're interested, I posted my latest acquisitions on my Anime Figures page. The Spiritale figure I received earlier this week deserves its own blog post. I pre-ordered it in April 2021 and not only was this figure highly anticipated, but it is also super gorgeous! This is a scale figure, therefore, it comes with a hefty price tag. On the other hand, I love cherry blossoms and I had to purchase it. My dream is to go to Japan in the springtime so I can experience the splendours of the sakura trees personally! love how she is beautifully perched on the branch and the flowers are so pretty. The figure is very well sculpted and the colours are well-painted.  Sakura Miku figure by Spiritale ( Otakumode) My beautiful Sakura Miku figure

Sailor Moon FigPins are here and where to find them!

Image
Sailor Moon figpins have landed and I couldn't be more excited! While this is more of a lifestyle/creative writing blog, I do plan to occasionally post about grail figures I received. I know this isn't really a grail figure but I was super excited for my Sailormoon Figpin to come in! I know many anime collectors have Figpins on their radar, and I felt like a post would benefit anyone who is a crazy collector like me! I do plan on posting all new figure arrivals in my anime figures tab . I strongly recommend you check it out occasionally! So let's begin, shall we? What is a Figpin? Just like its name, it is a figure and it is also a pin! They stand about 3 inches tall. You can either wear them as a pin or you can display them like a figure. Each Figpin comes with a special stand for displaying them! I can personally say that the pin I received (Sailor Moon) is really well done. The paint is very vibrant and there are no inaccuracies. In fact, the pin is incredibly cute and

A step ahead but not without a glance behind

With a new year fast approaching, I am already looking back at 2022! I really can't help it! It was a crappy year for me but with a positive outlook, I realized this was a year of transformation. This period of change or evolution as I like to call it was long overdue and I am glad to be given the hard lessons I had to face. I am so happy that we have a month left of 2022 and I can look forward to bigger and better things next month when I start University and begin a new chapter of my life. So yeah, I am getting a head start at this new year, new me bullshit! Except, I am already a new me and I am quite happy with the woman I am today. It is thanks to the lessons I had to face over the past couple of months that made me the strong, resilient, high-value woman I am! Yes, I am having a feminist moment, bare with me! This year has taught me the importance of having goals , of looking inwards and asking myself "what is it that I really want? " and reaching for the stars. It

Grail Figure: Hatsune Miku, Deep Sea Girl by Goodsmile company

Image
One of my hobbies is collecting anime figures and I got into Hatsune Miku during the Pandemic when I started playing the rhythm game.  I won't post every single figure I get but if you follow me on social media, you will see more pictures. I will blog about Grail figures though. I have created an Anime Figures Page where I will post photos of my latest acquisitions if anyone is interested. For the past 2 years, if you ordered anything from Japan, you would know that International shipments were suspended by Japan Post. Many figures sat in a warehouse until shipments were resumed. I managed to change shipments on some figures to have them delivered by FedEx or DHL but the larger figures were too expensive to change shipping methods. The figure I received today came from Japan and I still had a $45 customs charge on it!  I was super happy when I went to the post office to finally be able to pick up my highly anticipated, Deep Sea Girl figure by The Goodsmile Company! When this figu
