Old School Appreciation

Image
A couple of years ago, I made a life-changing decision to purchase a Kindle, which I believed was the epitome of modern innovation. The convenience it offered was unparalleled, as I bid farewell to the hassle of searching for bookmarks, and the built-in backlight made late-night reading a breeze. The exceptional battery life further solidified my admiration for this digital marvel. However, as time went on, I discovered that my love for physical books remained unyielding. There was an inexplicable allure in the tangible experience of holding an actual hard copy, immersing myself in its unique scent, and relishing the satisfaction of turning the pages with my hand instead of a mere flick of the finger. A vintage-looking copy of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein (Book Outlet) When I embarked on my university journey, I decided to put this preference to the test. I alternated between reading digital copies of my textbooks and using traditional hard copies. Inevitably, the latter won

Love in Beta Testing

Navigating a relationship with a musician or writer can be an exhilarating yet amusing experience, especially when you find yourself at the center of their creative inspiration. This post is an affectionate dedication to my partner, where my profession as a writer, allows me to explore our quirks and idiosyncrasies and get inspired to write about it. We affectionately refer to this phase of our relationship as "beta testing," where we're continually learning about each other and testing our compatibility in the close confines of his cozy, tiny apartment. Living together temporarily for an extended period has provided us with a unique opportunity to delve into each other's lives and truly understand one another. While some may struggle with the proximity, we, as introverted souls, have surprisingly found solace in each other's company. Of course, living in such proximity has its challenges, but this post focuses on the endearing and lighthearted aspects of our jour

Just Reading The Books

Image
Image of my University's library, taken from their website ( Concordia ) I had some time to kill between classes yesterday afternoon and instead of trekking back home for an hour, I decided to stay on campus to kill time by visiting the library. Since I was young, I always felt happy and at peace there because being surrounded by all the lovely books is soothing for me. In fact, I walked around like a kid in a candy store and even got to see some very old books displayed behind some plexiglass! How I wanted to reach through those plexiglass cabinets to touch those old, yellow pages! I love old books, they always make me wonder about their previous owners and wonder what they thought or felt while reading those stories. To me, reading is not just reading words on a page. I get transported to a different place or time. Depending on what I am reading, I can visit a fantasy world such as Middle Earth or time travel back in time and discover how people lived in that period. I can read b

The Discombobulated Life of a University Student

Image
Today was my first day at University. It was everything I imagined it would be and much, much more. As you guessed from this blog's title, it was a crazy, wild day! I had a dream! Let's start from the beginning. A few days ago, I had a dream that I got lost on campus and couldn't find my class. In my dream, I even took the school's shuttle bus and went to the other campus that is located across the city. I ended up finding the class by the time it was over. I had to take a photo of Concordia University's shuttle bus that takes you to the Loyola campus. I thought it was hilarious considering the circumstances! Guess what really happened? It all started when I woke up at 3:30am with a migraine. I took one of my meds with some Tylenol and fell back to sleep once the pills started to take effect. My alarms (yes, that is plural and not a typo) went off and I promptly shut them off. I snoozed my last alarm but slept through it. My baby bat's dad had a premonition and

The Little Things

Image
“You know," he said with unusual somberness, "I asked my father once why kenders were little, why we weren't big like humans and elves. I really wanted to be big," he said softly and for a moment he was quiet. "What did your father say?" asked Fizban gently. "He said kenders were small because we were meant to do small things. 'If you look at all the big things in the world closely,' he said, 'you'll see that they're really made up of small things all joined together.' That big dragon down there comes to nothing but tiny drops of blood, maybe. It's the small things that make the difference.” - Margaret Weis, author, Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragonlance Chronicles Beautiful snow filled branch! As I sit in my living room, with my laptop perched on a pillow, I am typing this while I am savouring my morning coffee. There's nothing quite like that first cup of coffee in the morning! My curtains on my window are slightly pa

Registering for Classes in Your First Year of University

Image
Usagi Tsukino, AKA Sailor Moon getting a bad test score (tuxedounmasked.com) As most of you know, I will be starting University next month and I am super excited to embark on the lovely (yet sometimes daunting)journey into the world of academia! Registering for your classes can seem scary but exciting and even a little confusing, all rolled into one! I wanted to share my experience in this process in hopes this blog post can help any first-time University students who are registering for their first classes! If anyone has advice, please hit me up in the comments! Again, this process can be daunting for any new student who is entering University and any tidbit of information is helpful! The Most Important Thing You Must Know - The University Won't Chase After You When I went to register for University and even after I signed my acceptance letter, I was bombarded with emails from the school with lots of information. A lot of it was for International students who are moving to my ci

Making Christmas: A gothic Christmas tree

Image
“When they got here It would cast them, shrieking and insane, into the deadlights" - Stephen King, It I think it has been two years since I purchased my black Christmas tree. I love my tree, except for the lights it came with. They are white and shiny and too bright for my liking. I spent my entire Sunday afternoon cutting off zip ties because the manufacturer zip tied the frigging lights to the branches! I wanted purple lights this year! I decided to do this task on the weekend when the baby bat wasn't home. I love my kid but every time I bring out the Christmas decorations, the kid goes nuts and has to decorate right away. I am so tired of looking at those white lights that for my sanity's sake, I decided to remove the lights when he wasn't home. This way, I am not being interrupted every five minutes with the same old question "is the tree ready yet?" and I can do the tedious job in peace! I used to relate to Lydia from Beetlejuice so much but now I can sy

Adult Crabapple Soup

Image
Soup cooking on the stove! When I was a kid, I used to go camping every summer with my mother at Long Sault Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. I used to look forward to these trips because my grandparents and Uncle had adjoining campsites. This meant I could play with my favourite cousin, Dean!  Me and Dean when we were kids. BFFs! I have so many fond childhood memories from Long Sault. I remember this truck would pass by every day with a microphone announcing "firewood for sale" and for some odd reason, we would get all excited over this. I remember my aunt and uncle giving me chocolate syrup every morning for my milk. I remember swimming in the lake and sometimes an adult would take us to the beach down the road. I remember collecting empty beer bottles with Dean in the woods and empty campsites. We would then go begging to an adult to take us to the nearest store (Beckers - which the adults would call Peckers when they thought we weren't listening!) to cash in the bot

The discombobulated life of a corp goth

Image
"We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." - Bob Ross Well, dear readers, I got a funny story for you all. It all happened on Friday when I went to a job interview. I thought I was prepared by laying out my clothes the night before. I forgot that most of my corp goth outfits don't quite fit me due to the weight gain that happened over the pandemic. I still got a whopping 15 pounds to lose and I thought "oh I am sure it will fit, I will be fine." That was my death wish indeed! Those are the best final words I could have muttered to myself before falling asleep last night! I got up early enough and since I had plenty of time to spare, I decided to watch a movie. I somehow lost track of time and had to get ready in a hurry. I picked out my best undergarments as I wanted to feel confident (there is a point to this, I will get to it in a bit, trust me!) Seriously ladies, wear those sexy undergarments if that is your thing! It really does help boost y
