Short story: The Neighbors

 The Neighbors by Sylvie Dubois

Kayla Darian recently took up residence in Sooke, British Columbia, Canada. Located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, this quaint, charming, harbour-side town is nestled between lush rainforests and beautiful beaches that are swept alongside the Pacific ocean. The reason why Kayla decided to take up residence in the quaint little town was not her own, the real reason for the move was Bill Kagen.

In reality, as much as poor Kayla would like to believe she wears the proverbial pants in her relationship, Bill holds all the cards. He sits back and supervises her house cleaning to only then criticize her. He expects her to bake him treats whenever he desires, and she obediently does whatever he wants and agrees to anything he says.
It is not because poor Miss. Kayla (who shall never become a Mrs, after all, she will be no one's property!) is an unattractive woman, it is because she sees herself as one. She never had any self-esteem. Bill likes this arrangement. He has a woman that would take care of him, a woman he could have sex with whenever he wanted and who would never push away his advances. She was also gullible enough to believe all his excuses when he comes home at odd hours from work. Most of the time, he just tells her he had to work late and when she would ask him why he didn't answer her numerous phone calls to his cellphone or office, Bill also had an excuse. He put his office phone on Do Not Disturb and turned his cell phone off. He is working on an important project which needs his full concentration. Kayla would never question any of this and was never suspicious when he wouldn't let her near him after his rendezvous.

Bill was either at Patricia's house who lived nearby or at Jennifer's place. Bill met Jennifer through Kayla. These two women satisfied him sexually while Kayla satisfied his need to dominate and to be taken care of. He only had sex with Kayla when the other two were not available. While Kayla had the girlfriend title, which was only that, her main duty was that of a caretaker. Jennifer liked to play kinky games while Patricia would let him screw her anally. Each woman fulfilled a specific desire.

Moving day, although a sad occasion for both Kayla and Bill, leaving their Toronto home they shared many memories together for several years, it was quite a happy occasion for their next-door neighbor Susan Bixley. Susan spent many years hearing many unsolicited comments about her noise level while the young couple spent many nights partying, playing loud music, slamming doors, walking heavy, and shouting. Whenever Susan would politely point out that they too make their share of noise,  a heavy resentment would flourish in the air for a few days. Those few days of heavy resentment were of reprieve for Susan because both Bill and Kayla would go out of their way to be quiet, as to prove a point. She did not want to have arguments with her neighbours, and for the most part, like everyone else in her complex, she went out of her way to ignore the couple. Holding any conversation with them was always unpleasant and like every other tenant in the building who had any encounter with the couple, Susan went out of her way to avoid them. Avoiding them was sometimes annoying because it meant that extra walk around the block to avoid spending an elevator ride with them.  Susan just wanted to live in peace, sometimes you had a small price to pay for peace and this was one of them.  These past few weeks, the price to pay for peace became a heavy burden. Bill seemed to be more of an asshole than usual. Susan suspected he did something or was about to get caught for something he did, which did not surprise her. He appeared to be nervous.  Whatever it was, Susan wished they both would get what was coming to them, she had about enough of Bill's antics, their loud door slamming, midnight shouting matches, their rude comments, and was about to inform the landlord she will be moving once her lease expired.

The day after Susan finally decided she was going to move, the young couple knocked on her door to tell her the happy news. They were moving and moving far away at that! Susan immediately changed her mind, she was not moving after all! That evening, Susan treated herself to an expensive meal at a nice restaurant and celebrated with the other tenants in her building! They were finally getting rid of them!

Kayla and Bill found a quaint home not far from the beach. Their home was mainly decorated with Bill's decorations. He bragged to anyone who would listen about his very old stereo system, and how loud it can really go despite the poor sound quality. The now-fortunate Susan Bixley could attest to that! When the couple first moved into the complex, Bill decided to turn up the volume on that stereo to the point all the dishes in Susan's cabinet began to vibrate. A very expensive family heirloom that Susan always treasured came crashing down. Susan was a little too slow, she missed it by a mere second and the heirloom shattered into a million pieces. What happened next still angers Susan to this date. When she knocked on their door to explain the situation and show the couple the broken valuable heirloom, Kayla immediately went to Bill's defence, agreeing with him that she was the one at fault for poorly hanging the heirloom on the shelf. That heirloom never moved an itch since Susan originally hung up the shelf. On a weekly basis, Susan used to inspect that shelf and made sure her precious heirloom was secured. It was very frustrating for Susan to explain this to them because they refused to hear any of it. Susan, being middle-aged and with high blood pressure started to feel its effects. It also did not help that the stifling summer humidity was getting to her that day. When she politely asked to talk this over calmly over a glass of water because she was starting to feel ill, Kayla slammed the door in her face! If it were not for the nice young gentleman with the mohawk and piercings that lived across the hall and who witnessed the whole ordeal, she would have fainted right there in front of their door! Both Bill and Kayla were heard laughing and calling her “a crazy old bitch” The nice gentleman with the funny hairdo and piercings offered her water and a seat in his air-conditioned apartment, and Susan accepted. “I have a feeling we are in for a fun time with those two” he remarked. From that day onward, Susan and the other tenants in her building became friendly with one and the other as they had a common enemy.

Bill and Kayla were also the very dull sort of people who never really held a good conversation, it usually revolved around them bragging about one thing or another. If you bought a car, Bill's car was better. If you got a new computer, Bill had something better on his. They never quite understood why they couldn't keep any friends and were eager to move to a new home to start fresh, far away from that crazy old bitch who lived upstairs as well as most of the other tenants in their building.

A week after moving into their new home, a knock was heard at the door. “Please darling, you had a rough day. Let me answer the door for you, love” Kayla offered. Bill glanced out the window and saw the form of a very curvy woman silhouetted amongst the glass. “Nah, it is alright darling, I will get it. You were busy all day making me pie.”When Bill answered the door, it took great amounts of self-control to hide the fact that he was attracted to the woman at his door. In fact, he regretted wearing those tight grey jogging pants, he was hoping she would not notice his erection.

He stood poised at the door with his arms outstretched and his legs crossed, one in front of the other. He held his head high. He thought this made him look self-confident and helped him hide his boner but the woman who stood in front of him thought he appeared to be an arrogant ass.

“Welcome to the neighbourhood. My name is Donna Tanner. I live across the street.” She said and extended a cake. “Well, I made this for you. It is an apple cake picked by the apples from my tree” she said proudly. “Thank you very much. Would you like to join us for some tea? You can meet my girlfriend, Kayla” Bill offered. Donna accepted his greeting. She entered their home and removed her shoes. “Wow, those are pretty high. How do you walk in those?” Bill asked pointing at her stilettos. Donna just smiled and chuckled politely.

The afternoon was spent merrily enough for the couple. Donna learned a lot about her new neighbors. In fact, she rarely got to tell them about herself. She learned very quickly that they moved here from Ontario. Bill was an accountant who got a job at the National Bank to replace the now retired Bank Manager, Mr. Garrison.  She noticed he put a lot of emphasis on the Manager part.  Kayla stayed at home but she was a very successful writer who wrote poetry. Donna never heard of her but after some questioning, which Kayla was very happy to answer, Donna determined that she had one book published. Later that night, to satisfy her curiosity, after spending some time on the Internet, Donna discovered that Kayla was not as successful as she claimed to be. In fact, the “book” she got published was just two poems that were contributed and the rest were merely poetry written by some other unknown authors. After reading the commentary, Donna soon discovered that a lot of people disliked her contributions. She chuckled to herself and didn't appear too surprised. Donna regretted inviting them to her barbeque the following weekend but there is one thing about Sooke, while they loved tourists, they disliked any outsiders moving in on their land. Outsiders meant trouble. This would be a good opportunity for the small town to get to know the newcomers and how they could assess the situation.

That night as Kayla and Bill were about to get settled in for the night, Bill initiated intercourse with Kayla. This took her by surprise. Normally she had to be the one to get things going and for a brief moment wondered if the pretty girl across the road was the reason for this. She immediately brushed the thought out of her head. Bill likes strong women like her, not some little high-heel-wearing bimbo. It is probably the fresh air, the change of scenery. They were beginning to feel stifled back in Toronto, especially with a very noisy neighbor like Susan Bixley!

Bill was in fact thinking about Donna, Kayla really wasn't that far off the mark. He was imagining what it would be like to have sex with the new neighbour. Whenever he would stroke Kayla's large, sagging breasts, he would imagine he was stroking Donna's smaller, firm ones. Whenever he would rub his hands all over Kayla's large thighs, he would imagine they were Donna's. He would stroke Kayla's matted, greasy hair but in Bill's mind, he was running his hands on Donna's beautiful, soft auburn locks. He moaned and came rather quickly. He did not give Kayla enough time to finish but she didn't mind, she would finish that on her own when he fell asleep. After all, she was happy to see she was able to satisfy him, especially tonight when he entered her with so much enthusiasm. She would use this as motivation and imagine him finishing the job while using her pudgy, clumsy fingers. It really wasn't his fault, he just started an important new job. He would do something nice for her real soon. He always does. He will take her to a nice dinner or buy her flowers from the supermarket or something.

The week went by rather quickly. While working at the bank, Bill met most of the town folks. Bill was surprised that most of the people he met already knew about him and Kayla. This surprised him, he didn't think Donna was the gossiping type but in reality, news travels quickly in a small, tight-knit community such as this one.

Donna's barbeque that weekend was held on a perfect summer night. The air was not too humid and you were able to smell a nice salty scent that was coming in from the ocean. The moon, not quite full, shone brightly in the night sky.  Almost forty people sat merrily outside in Donna's very packed backward. The only people complaining about being confined were Bill and Kayla, no one else seemed to mind. They were too busy enjoying themselves.“If we wanted to feel crammed like this we would have stayed in the city” Bill commented. Kayla had a blank expression but you could tell she agreed.  She always agreed with Bill.

All of Donna's friends and neighbors quickly got to know the new couple. Mr. Carlson who owns the Barbershop on Main street even got a free cooking lesson from Bill. “You got to make sure the coals are good and red. You see these ones here, they are still black” Mr. Garrison bit his tongue but he really felt like telling Bill exactly where he can put those coals.

Kayla stuck by Bill's side which never was too far from Donna's.“You two should become best friends, you have so much in common” Bill boasted. Donna seriously doubted she had anything in common with the homely woman but she just smiled politely, which made Bill beam. She didn't want to commit to the best friend part either. Maybe he is only trying to help her make friends, they are just trying really hard and failing badly at fitting in, she thought. Bill was hoping that he would hit it off with Donna more than Kayla would. He remembered Kayla's friend Jennifer back home. Jennifer made it very clear in the beginning that Kayla was merely an acquaintance and had no qualms about doing naughty things with him behind her back. Better get that out of my mind, I don't want to get hard up right now, he thought.

As the night wore on and the wine bottles began to empty, a very intoxicated Kayla was telling everyone how much of an accomplished, intelligent woman she was.“It is a sign of intelligence being published, you know. Unfortunately for you, Minerva, you will never know the burdens of success like I have” she boasted. Minerva was shocked. She was telling Kayla earlier in the evening how she played the violin since she was four years old. She even lived in Montreal for a time playing in their “Orchestre Symphonique” an achievement she was very proud of.  Unfortunately for Minerva, her arthritis worsened and she cannot play anymore. That was something that caused her major depression for many years.

What Kayla said next was what shocked everyone in the backward. “you know, if I had arthritis that bad that made me look like a deformed hunched back, that my hands are constantly clenched together like that and I wasn't able to write anymore, I would have killed myself a long time ago. I guess not everyone is as lucky or as intelligent as I am. At least if I were to be deformed, I could dictate my poetry and have someone type it out for me. It is not like you ever composed any symphonies now have you, Minerva?”

The whole backward went silent. Little to Kayla's knowledge, a couple of years ago, most of the town folk had to fish Minerva out of the ocean. She had tried to drown herself and if it weren't for the very close and good citizens of this very town, she would have lost her life. The support and care Minerva received from this very community is what kept her alive, what sustained her. The good citizens of Sooke were not just mere neighbors, they were family. Kayla's insult did not just insult Minerva, it insulted practically the whole town. Minerva will always be their beloved celebrity violinist and they had no use for mouthy, arrogant, wanna-be authors. Those remarks also stung the townfolk because Minera is that kind of loving, grandmotherly old lady all the children went to for cookies. She helped anyone with anything. Minerva would give the shirt off her back for anyone, even a stranger. She has a heart of gold and she of all people certainly did not deserve to be spoken to that way. It seems as if the whole world stopped when Kayla spoke that venom to her. The only sound that was heard was the waves from the ocean and the crickets outside. Everyone was in complete shock.

Finally, Donna spoke “please excuse my guest. I think she had too much to drink----” Kayla cut her off. “I don't feel so....” and threw up violently right there in front of everyone.  “I think I will take her home. Donna, think you can help me?. I can sure use a second shoulder for her to lean on” Bill asked. Donna quickly obliged, she wanted these people out of her yard before a fight broke out.

When Donna reached their home and was about to leave, after all, she was a good hostess and did all she had to do. Kayla was already asleep the moment she hit the couch in the living room, in a drunken stupor. “I think she will sleep here tonight.” Bill added. “Good night” Donna simply said then turned her back to leave. She had enough of these people. That is when Bill grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her towards him. Within seconds, he immediately started rubbing her hair with his left hand while holding her firmly against him with his right hand. Donna was not interested in his advances, in fact, she was trying to break free from his surprisingly strong grasp. “Don't fight me, I know you want it. I can tell just by the way you were looking at me, especially when you came over here the other day in those high heels” he whispered in her ear and began to gently nibble on it while playing with her earring. She was able to smell the whiskey on his breath and was trying very hard not to throw up.

Bill pinned her against the wall opposite the couch where Kayla was sleeping then he started pressing his erection on her crotch. This is not happening. He is going to rape me if I don't get the fuck out of here now, Donna thought.

A very primitive, animistic urge and the need for survival came over her.  With one very quick and very forceful push, Bill went flying across the room. It surprised him. He didn't think the little woman had it in her, how could she be that strong?  Kayla began to stir but she was still passed out. The only thought that went through Bill's mind was “that little bitch is nothing but a god damned fucking tease. She is going to get what is coming to her” By the time he was able to reach his bearings, he was still quite intoxicated, Donna was already across the street. He was able to see her silhouette in the dark running towards the backward. For a moment, he thought he saw her running on all fours and appeared to be changing into something but that was surely his imagination. “Fucking tease” he slurred then started to pull off Kayla's pants. If he couldn't get Donna to put out, he would have to settle for Kayla.  That boner was beginning to ache like hell. Kayla started to stir and really woke up when he was already inside her going at her with such brutal force. “Be careful, you're hurting me” she said.

He slapped her and replied “don't you fucking start too. Don’t you take lessons from that whore across the road” The slap sobered her up quickly. Kayla knew he was drunk. He only hit her when he was intoxicated which was usually only a rare occasion such as this one so that made it alright. The last time he hit her, he cried and said he was sorry. It wasn't his fault she wasn't listening to him, he knew best and was only trying to help. She fucked up and she should be lucky to have a guy like him in her life. He takes care of her.  It is like that last time, about two years ago when he came home drunk and she accused him of smelling like sex. Just like last time,  it was her fault. She was being a paranoid little girl. She would have to be a better girlfriend. He does so much for her and she didn't trust him. Kayla bit her lip and tried her best not to tremble. She let him have his way with her. She closed her eyes and try to block the pain from him thrusting in her so violently. She was not aroused and was in a lot of pain. She knew if she whimpered or showed signs she was not enjoying it, Bill would get angry. She would never hear the end of it.

The following weeks were spent with Donna going out of her way to ignore Bill. Kayla came over a few days later. She didn't apologize for her behaviour, which was no surprise. She was pretending that night never happened.  She showed up to see if Donna would be interested in buying her poetry book. “I already purchased it online” she lied.

A few more days passed by and there was a knock on her door. It was Bill. He was holding up a pie. “I came to make a peace offering. I have offended you. I was very drunk that night and I thought you were my girlfriend” he lied. Donna tried very hard to not strike him then and there. What utter bullshit! she wanted to say but bit her tongue. She remembered Mr. Garrison's words during the night of her barbecue after she told him what had transpired across the street  “Do not lose it Donna, play into their trap. Become that huntress you are”

Donna smiled sweetly. Bill knew then his charm had worked. What woman wouldn't be able to resist his charm?  He looked at the nails on his hand, pretending to be nonchalant. “Kayla misses your friendship. She never had many girlfriends and even made you her famous apple pie.” Donna thought for a few moments and an idea came to her. “Thank you for the pie. I will tell you what. I do have plans to go out tonight but if I can cancel them, why don't the both of you come over? I will buy some of Laura's homemade iced ream from the parlour in town to go with the pie. We can start fresh”

Bill smiled from ear to ear, and agreed. Donna promised to call them within the hour. Donna did not have plans that night but Bill did not need to know that. It was only baited and it appeared to have worked.  She just watched him walk across the street and then immediately began dialling the townsfolk. “Project fumigate in motion, tonight at 7 pm, pass it along the phone tree.” She instructed then looked down at the pie. “ Now I know who's been stealing apples from my trees” she thought. Donna noticed not long after Bill and Kayla moved in,  her tree wasn't giving her as many apples as she thought it would. She has seen a few ripe ones and was meaning to pick them off the trees but when she went the next day, they were gone. It wouldn't surprise her, they are the type of people who would take what is not theirs.

Donna ate a light Dinner that night and then proceeded to take a shower. She wanted to look her best for her guests that night. She wore a pair of fishnet knee-high stockings, a leather skirt short enough for Bill to get a peak of the garter belt, and a dark purple lace shirt that covered the black tank top underneath. She tied her auburn hair in a tight bun and then applied some black liquid eyeliner to make her green eyes pop. The final touch was the bright red lipstick.  She was hunting tonight. She wanted to look her best. She felt that stir, that insatiable hunger. It was intoxicating. I better get a grip on myself. I can't fuck this up., she thought.

At exactly 7pm, Donna's doorbell rang. What happened to people being fashionably late?  She answered the door with her usual sweet smile. Bill's eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw her.  Donna did not have to look over at Kayla, she knew she was giving her a dirty look. Good, she thought and smiled at them both.  She showed her guests around her home. They were surprised at how much antique furniture she had. As expected, Bill claimed to be an expert and commented on how some of her furniture were modern replicas. Donna bit her tongue. She knew her furniture was from the Victorian era, passed down from generation to generation by loving family members. Besides, look at where it is coming from, steady, do not give a reaction. Ignoring the remarks, Donna escorted her guests to the parlour. “I am heating up your pie Kayla. I will get everything ready, please have a seat. What do you take in your coffees?” she asked. “I take double double while Kayla only wants a spoonful of sugar but you should not have to go through all that trouble, why don't you bring it all here, we can put everything in ourselves. Kayla can come help if you want” Bill replied

“No, I don't mind preparing it all. After all, you are my guests. This is Sooke hospitality. Please be seated.” Donna answered. She hoped they would believe her, what a horrible excuse, she scolded herself and was a horrible liar! To her luck, they sat down without any questions. Sooke Hospitality? Seriously?

Donna hurried into the kitchen, closed the double doors behind her and got to work. There is no time to lose. She prepared the coffee and made sure her guests were out of eyesight. She poured a good amount of GHB into Kayla's drink. Known as the date rape drug, GHB is odourless, colourless and has no flavor. She wanted Kayla out cold for awhile.

Donna watched Kayla gobble up three helpings of pie and was worried she didn't put enough drugs in her coffee. She got up to prepare more coffee. I got to knock that bitch out! Seeing that Kayla was a hefty woman, Donna poured a bigger amount into her coffee and not long after, the drug started to take effect. Kayla was falling asleep.

Bill did not appear to be overly concerned. “I wonder what could have made her so tired,” he said. Donna knew it was time, she smiled deviously while placing her hand on Bill's crotch underneath the table then said “Kayla, I have a comfortable bed, why don't you go lie down. The night is still early, I could keep Bill company. Why walk home? You look so exhausted, I doubt you would make it that far.  I would feel better if you took a rest here, besides, you loved that big old bed in my guest room” Donna offered.  Kayla mumbled something incomprehensible and that was enough approval they both needed.

Bill was very eager to help Donna carry Kayla into her spare bedroom then she proceeded to lead Bill into hers. She put her arms around him and immediately began stroking his erection. Just like in the parlor downstairs, she was not going to play cute by slowly seducing him, she got right to the point.  “I knew you would come around” he whispered. “You're right. I am sorry for pushing you away, I really did want you that night” Donna lied while trying to push that memory out of her mind. Bill did not waste any time either, he started kissing her. It took Donna to make a herculean effort to kiss him back and not vomit in his mouth. Let's make this quick before I do something stupid, she thought. Bill was having the time of his life. So the little bitch changed her mind. I knew she would. His suspicions proved true. He had a feeling Donna drugged Kayla to sleep with him, he admired her craftiness. The idea of fucking her while his girlfriend lay passed out in the other room made him that much more aroused. He was even considering mentioning the idea of a threesome with Kayla tomorrow. Better watch my thoughts, I don't want to cum in my pants!

Donna gently urged him onto her bed. “Lay here" she demanded.  Bill smiled, oh so she thinks she is little miss Dom now, I got to show the little lady who's boss. He obviously didn't oblige to her demand but picked her up and laid her down on the bed instead. This doesn't surprise me one bit, she thought.

He was kissing her neck and caressing her breasts. I am going to need another shower after this, how revolting.  She closed her eyes and felt the energy stir around her, just like the other night and all the other times she began to change. She felt her muscles slowly begin to spasm. I better do something now or else it is all ruined. “I want to suck your cock” she said trying to keep her voice sweet and less hoarse. Bill thought Donna looked strange, she had an air of mystery about her, perhaps it was the moonlight coming in from the window? His mind told him to run but his other mind, his cock, was telling him to pull down his trousers. Bill began to unbuckle his belt and pull down his pants. Donna immediately began sucking. He tried to pull her away. He was in the most excruciating pain he ever felt. The bitch got some motherfucking sharp teeth! My cock! He tried pulling her off of him but she only grabbed him closer and laughed with his junk still in her mouth. He looked at her and screamed in horror. She was no longer that auburn-haired, green-eyed beauty he wanted to have for himself. She had a monstrous quality about her. Her eyes were now yellow and her nose began to grow long, like a snout. She smiled, laughed more at his look of utter shock and terror then smiled like a Cheshire cat, just to show him her fangs. What happened to her white, perfectly straight teeth, what the fuck happened to her, what the fuck did she put in my pie? He thought.

“I didn't drug you” she boomed and he panicked. The bitch just read my thoughts. “That's right and I read your thoughts when you first met me, how you wanted to fuck me and in essence, you did. You used Kayla as a tool so you can do it by proxy. How disappointing, you couldn't even last five minutes! ” she spoke, telepathically.  Then she changed. Within a flash, Bill was staring at a seven-foot, ginger-furred wolf. I'm on drugs he thought but he heard her voice through his mind laughing at him. Within a few seconds, he was screaming in agony. The wolf bit off his cock. “This will teach you,” she said laughing. Bill was screaming in agony, blood was gushing down and there she was, the ginger wolf lapping up the blood. She appeared to be enjoying it.  Within moments, the room was filled with people. He overheard the town doctor “there's the morphine, I cannot have you screaming like this all over the place and wake up the humans. Too bad you won't feel the pain anymore. Oh well. At least you felt some of it” he chuckled. Bill felt the sting in his arm. He knew he was being drugged this time for real. Where the fuck is Kayla, what are they going to do to her? he thought. He heard Donna's voice again in his mind. “Not as bad as what I just did to you.”

He recognized the voices of the people nearby. Between spasms of pain, he screamed “I am going to get you all. You motherfuckers”  “Not very likely” Donna replied, telepathically. The morphine began to kick in. All he could feel were the wetness, the blood around the crotch area. “I am going to have to get it sewn on, I will probably never be able to get an erection now, that bitch”

“That is the point” he heard Donna in his mind again. She made sure to get really close to his face and what he saw made him vomit. There she was, still in wolf form laying on her bed chowing down on his cock like it were a sausage. “They can't sew on what they cannot find,” a voice said laughing.

Moments went by but it felt like hours to Bill. He knew he was being driven somewhere then he was being carried off near the ocean, he heard waves crashing down around him. Kayla was awake, he could tell by her screaming, which was immediately silenced. Minerva attached a ball gag to her mouth. Donna now changed back to her beautiful woman form and was standing in front of them. She was wearing a robe. Next to her stood Minerva and they were surrounded by the townsfolk. Donna began to speak normally. “You were not dreaming tonight, Bill. I changed in front of you. You managed to not just stumble upon us but you also successfully managed to  piss off a clan of lycanthropes”

“Werewolves?” he thought, he couldn't speak. He was handcuffed and gagged, he assumed they did the same thing to Kayla. He felt like he was caught in some sadistic nightmare. He knew that Donna could read his thoughts.

“Yes, werewolves. I thought someone as well educated as you are Bill wouldn't need to search for the meaning of lycanthropy. Yes, we are shapeshifters, we live here to hide away from the rest of the world. You messed with our clan. You tried to rape me and your girlfriend insulted one of our elders. I turned into a wolf and bit your dick off for what you tried to do to me. For what you DID to that poor little girl. Not only does your prize boyfriend beats on you Kayla, but he is also a rapist and a pedophile. You see the reason why Bill moved to Toronto in the first place is because he drugged and raped a 16-year-old girl back in Manitoba. You moved here to Sooke because Kayla was starting to find out about your cheating, Jennifer was starting to get a conscience, especially after when Kayla confided in her that you hit her because she remarked that you came home smelling like sex. Jennifer threatened to tell Kayla or else she would! I can read your thoughts, it is especially easy for a human as weak-minded as you are.” Kayla began to whimper.  He was pissed off. How dare this bitch call me out? LIES! “No, they are not lies. It is funny, for someone who just got his dick bit off you are more concerned over your reputation” “Why didn't you all kill us at the barbecue then?” Kayla thought

“Because killing you would be too easy. Yes, we got a gift. Yes, we could have changed into our True Forms and be done with it. We could even kill you now in this weak feeble human form, Bill noticed how strong our kind are, didn't you Bill? A swift death is too easy, too kind for people like you” Minerva spoke.

“Why me?” thought Kayla. Minerva told her about her words during the barbecue. Donna commented on how she could of left Bill and reminded her about all the mean things she said and did to their friends and neighbors back home.  Kayla began to cry. She tried to find excuses for all this but she couldn't. She had to accept reality for the first time in her life.

With a very forceful movement, Minerva's deformed body slammed down on Kayla's legs. Her screams were still heard through the ball gag. Bill knew Minerva was breaking Kayla's legs. He also knew Minerva chose to do Kayla first, so he could watch and know he was next. Just like what Minerva had said, Bill remembered Donna's brute force the night she pushed him off of her. He knew that her superhuman deformed body was capable of chopping Kayla in half if she really wanted to.

He closed his eyes and braced himself but the blow never came. They were laughing at him just like the way they were laughing at the old bitch back in Toronto when they refused to give her water and slammed the door in her face. A few minutes went by, and still no blow. Bill sat there, hands tied, gagged, eyes closed, he was waiting for that blow to come and it never came. Bill knew he lost a lot of blood but he also knew they wanted to make sure he could not escape. Bill honestly doubted an escape was possible, once the morphine wore off, he would be in pain again. How far can a man walk with the injury he just received? Bill guessed the Clan was not going to take any chances. Fifteen minutes went by and wham! In a split second, Bill felt a wave of excruciating pain. It was not as bad as having his cock bit off but it was still pretty bad. He just had his legs broken.

The clan walked away. Sitting only a few feet away, a lone black wolf stood guard. There was no escaping. They were still bound and gagged. The wolf sat silently and waited. Bill was wondering how long they could survive. He wished they would just kill them, he started begging the wolves in his mind, he knew they could hear him. When begging didn't work, Bill started yelling at them, cursing them, and threatening them with his thoughts.  They both tried to scream but not much sound came out. The sun was beginning to rise. They spent the night out there on that beach. Bill was surprised he lasted that long. He was very weak from the loss of blood. Surely someone would come. The black wolf was gone and a white one was there to replace him. Bill thought it was odd, no one, no humans were passing by. “This beach is private property. It goes on for miles and miles. It belongs to someone in our clan. Even if you could scream, no one would be able to hear you. As you can tell, we are not ones to take chances ” the wolf answered in his mind. Bill closed his eyes and prayed for a swift death. The wolf made sure Bill could hear him laughing.  The tide began to come in. He thought the sounds of the waves were soothing, they were calling to him.

He felt water touch his feet. The morphine has worn out. Bill was in agony again. Any slim chance at escaping was gone. He was in too much pain to move.  The wolf began to slowly walk away. With another crash of a wave, the cool ocean water touched his knees. Holy fuck, the tide is going to wash us away. We are going to drown, we are going to get carried in by the tide! No one will be able to find our bodies!

Bill glanced over at Kayla who was staring at him with a look of pure hate on her face. He also saw the pain, the hurt in her eyes but he didn't care. The water started to close in, and this time the water began touching their torsos. He heard howling in the distance. He felt the waves closing in again. His body tried to fight but there was nothing he can do. The last thought that went through Bill's mind was “that bitch” and he heard them laughing at him in his mind.  Kayla was praying. Donna felt for a brief moment some remorse for the girl. They could have let her go, left a note from Bill saying he was leaving her or they could slay her quickly but after the entire clan spent time reading her thoughts, they knew their survival depended on her death.

Susan Bixley awoke in her Toronto home with a start. She slept in! Last night was a strange night indeed, she felt some weird energy in the air and woke up several times in a sweat. It was very odd, she even thought of Bill and Kayla, which surprised her. She has not thought of the couple who made her life hell in weeks. She also heard a female voice say in her mind “they're gone now” I must be dreaming, thought Susan and rolled over and went back to sleep. She dreamed of a beautiful open beach and of a ginger-haired wolf running along the water.

When Susan finally woke up, it was very late in the afternoon, which was also strange. The last time Susan slept in like that, she was a college student! As she was drinking her coffee and looking out the window at the street below, Susan had a strange urge that she had gotten some justice from all the hardship, all the rude remarks, insults, and harassment she endured while Bill and Kayla lived in that complex. She brushed the thought out of her mind, she just thought she was just getting old.

In Manitoba, a young woman was sitting at a cafe when she heard a female voice come out of nowhere “he can't hurt you anymore, he's gone. Justice has been served” The young woman had a sense of knowing that the man who raped her, who stole her virginity when she was only sixteen was gone. Justice was served.  While this would never change what had happened, she was probably scarred for life but the young woman felt like in some way, the man got what he deserved. In some strange way, he really was gone, he wasn't in prison, and he wasn't out there anymore.  For two years, every night, the young girl would have nightmares over the ordeal.  That night she didn't dream of Bill raping her like she always did, night after night, re-living the scene in her mind over and over again.  She also didn't wake up screaming like she has been doing for the past two years. This time around, her dream was very peaceful, very serene. She dreamt of a long beautiful beach where the sand seemed to go on for miles. Running across the beach was a very strange-looking wolf. The wolf's fur had a ginger tinge to it and whenever you would look into it's eyes, you saw an essence of humanity.  What really stood out in that dream was not the strange wolf but how the tide slowly started to come in from the sea.
