I'm excited to share the news that my condo has been successfully sold. Despite the current market conditions, I am grateful that the sale didn't result in a significant loss. One of the primary reasons for selling my condo was that moving out of Montreal had been on my mind for quite some time. Another deciding factor was the fact that I fell in love with my boyfriend's charming Ontario town. This provided me with the extra motivation to make the move.

Living in one of Montreal's most popular neighbourhoods has been convenient and enjoyable due to its proximity to various amenities, parks, public transit, a public pool, and even a beach. It was undoubtedly a fantastic experience, but as the years passed, the city's allure started to fade. One of the major reasons for this is the persistent linguistic politics that have existed long before my time, but unfortunately, these issues seem to have escalated over the years. The increasing absurdity of these matters left me feeling exhausted and disenchanted.

Another aspect that contributed to my decision to leave Montreal is the province's high tax rates, which make it the highest-taxed province in all of Canada. Coupled with the rising cost of living, it has become financially challenging to sustain a comfortable lifestyle here.

The changing landscape of Montreal has also been disheartening to witness as numerous small, locally-owned businesses are struggling to survive. The soaring rent prices have become a significant burden for these charming establishments and many dedicated owners are forced to close their doors. These establishments are often filled by larger corporations, which often lack the personalized touch and distinctive charm that made these places so special. The influx of corporate entities not only alters the character of the area but also has broader implications for the community's identity and sense of belonging. As someone who cherishes small ''mom-and-pop shops,'' I find it disheartening to witness this transformation. I believe that supporting small businesses is essential for fostering a vibrant and thriving community. The sense of camaraderie and authenticity that these establishments bring to the neighbourhood is irreplaceable, As I embark on this new chapter, I'm looking forward to exploring a place with a more balanced cost of living and a fresh start. After all, I already befriended the owner of the local occult shop in my new neighbourhood!

On a positive note, the proceeds from the sale of my condo will allow me to purchase a small vehicle. This will be immensely helpful as I continue my education at the university in Montreal. Additionally, the new vehicle will enable me to drive my child back and forth to Montreal to see her friends and her dad.

In addition, thanks to the sale, I was able to pay off my debts and purchase a charming two-story, three-bedroom house with a delightful small backyard. The house was built in the 1930s, which aligns perfectly with my taste and love for vintage architecture. When I stumbled upon this home listed online, it was love at first sight. The front porch captured my heart, and interestingly enough, the entire house resembles a fond childhood memory—the replica of a dollhouse my father lovingly crafted for me years ago.

Although the house requires some tender loving care, I'm eager to put in the effort. My first plan is to paint and perhaps renovate the interior but next summer, I plan on installing a new back balcony complete with a small patio area in the backyard, which is currently covered in gravel. I can already envision the lush green grass and beautiful rosebushes I'll plant to add a touch of nature and beauty to the space. The house also needs a fresh paint job, especially on the interior, where the light green colour reminds me a bit too much of an old mental institution. I can't wait to transform it into a warm (or in my case, dark) and inviting (again, in my case, the perfect word to use here is macabre) space that truly feels like home.

One of the things I'm most excited about is purchasing a swing for my front porch. I can already picture myself spending cool summer days outside, reading my favourite books and enjoying the serenity of my new surroundings. Living in the city has its perks, but I yearn for some quiet and the opportunity to gaze at the stars and witness the magical glow of fireflies at night.

Having my own piece of land is a dream come true. It means I'll have the freedom to plant my beloved rosebushes, decorate my home to my heart's content, and create a cozy indoor reading nook where I can escape into different worlds through books.

Another aspect I'm particularly thrilled about is no longer having to deal with the restrictions imposed by a homeowners' association (HOA). Living in my condo came with a set of silly rules that often felt suffocating. Now, I'll have the liberty to express my individuality and make my own choices without any unnecessary interference.

Leaving the city where I grew up is undoubtedly bittersweet, but I believe it's time to embrace a quieter and more fulfilling life. I'll cherish the memories I've made, but I'm excited about the next chapter and the endless possibilities that await me in my lovely new home. It's a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh beginnings, and I couldn't be happier about this new adventure!

My charming new home!
